In 'Pins and Needles' I'd like to share with you some of my favorite images found while spending (entirely too much) time trolling through Pinterest. If you haven't been to this ingenious images gathering site you must visit and come take a peek through my pinboards while you're there! These are a few of my favorite artwork images collection. The colors instantly caught my eye. I think they have a sort of playful sophistication about them.
Love the use of fabric as art in this simple, chic dining room! Using a favorite fabric print as art is genius to dress up a wall. It's generally more economical and you can size the piece to fit your needs and space.
Oh and ps.- the chairs are upholstered in an outdoor fabric for super-durability at the dinner table! Smart cookie!

Happy New Year to all of my lovely readers! My short blogging absence was due to a vicious stomach bug that held my family hostage for the better part of the holidays. In fact, all of the kindergartenmothers were sick on the very same day, so the kindergarten fathers pitched in to host the kiddie's Christmas party! Now that is one party I wish I could have attended...well...maybe not!
After some twittering over Pinterest tonight, I thought I should let you know that I have now joined the party as well! If you're not familiar, Pinterestis a genius corner of the web that gives us creative types another excuse to waste time online! In actuality, it is a valuable well of inspirational photos, in every category you can dream up!
Okay, so I'm a little early. But when I discovered that at SimpleCard.com, in addition to choosing one of their stock designs, you can upload your own image to create a greeting card, I knew I wanted to order a custom Christmas postcard for my daughter's little friends! I used this doodle I did of Audrey in her leg warmers and I think it turned out perfectly!
The whole process from start to card-in-hand was so fast and easy, I'll definitely be using the site again! Plus, along with your card order, you get FREE envelopes and FREE shipping! FREE is nice, right? And for those of us who are super busy (or super lazy!) you have the option of uploading your mailing list and having the greetings sent directly to your loved ones!
Of course, you can certainly create cards for all sorts of things, not just the holidays. I just seem to have Christmas-on-the-brain lately, as you can tell from the new Spincushion holiday banner!
**Warning: I have just received my new set of 132 Prismacolor Pencils so be prepared for more indulgent displays of artwork!**
My mother used to make grapevine wreaths as gifts for friends and family when we were little. I remember her hiking up the hill near our home which used to be covered in lovely, thick forest- of course all that has been cleared now to make way for other things, unfortunately. She'd return, her scratched and scraped up arms full of grapevine, which over the next months she'd fashion into rounds of welcome that would adorn the homes of our loved ones through the holiday season.
I guess that's why wreaths still feel so welcoming to me now. I hope my new little blog-topper will make you feel welcome as you visit me here over the holiday season!
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have the sudden urge for cocoa!
On Monday, my family made a trip to the Pittsburgh Children's Museum- a totally fun place for kids (and adults) to learn through hands-on play experience.
I was delighted to find that Bovey Lee, an amazing paper cutting artist, had an exhibit there through the end of the month!
Her work blends modern themes with the traditional Chinese art of rice paper cutting. It is so beautiful and the detail is just astonishing!
My favorite part is that the museum had a paper cutting exhibit for children to attempt their own paper masterpieces with designs provided by the artist herself!
It is so exciting to wonder what little hands might create one day inspired by what they experienced here!
You can pop on over to Bovey's on-line gallery and blog for more about her work.
Feel free to link to anything on my blog. Actually, please do! Just shoot me a quick e-mail to let me know. Have a blast with the projects- but please limit them to your personal use and don't sell my original patterns or the completed projects you've made from them- Thanks!
